Jury courts are on level one and level two at the auckland district court. Once an indictable or electable case has gone through committal you will have to appear at criminal callover. This will be in a court on level one or level two. The purpose of the criminal callover is to set court dates for pretrial hearings and a date for the trial itself. A case will be given a standby trial date and a firm trial date. A standby date is a trial date that is a backup date to other trials. In other words if the other trial dont proceed that week your trial will proceed. A firm fixture is one that does not rely on whether other cases proceed it will proceed regardless. Pretrial dates will include admissibility arguments and pretrial applications to have the charegs dismissed for lack of evidence. These hearings will be slotted in befroe the main trial date.
